Your Initial Visit with Dr. Lerner - What to Expect

When the decision has been made to have the vasectomy reversal performed, you can feel confident in your choice to see Dr. Brad Lerner, one of the most esteemed microsurgeons and urologists specializing in vasectomy reversals.

Even before your consultation with Dr. Lerner, Chesapeake Urology's patient coordinators will contact you to talk to you about any questions you may have, ensuring that you feel comfortable, and prepared. At Chesapeake Urology, our philosophy of care is to accommodate, inform, and take care of you.  From the beginning, we are only a phone call or an e-mail away.  We want you to feel confident that all of your questions and concerns can and will be answered promptly before, during and after the reversal.

Your Consultation with Dr. Lerner

When you walk into Dr. Lerner's office, you may notice a wall full of photos of babies and smiling, happy families. You can take heart in knowing that all of these babies were conceived with the help of Dr. Lerner, a fact of which he is most proud! When you become a patient, you become part of the Chesapeake Urology extended family.  So, relax and feel confident as Dr. Lerner walks you through the reversal process, step by step.

The consultation may take up to an hour, during which Dr. Lerner will take a detailed medical history and discuss any medical concerns and medications that you are on, in addition to learning about your fertility history and that of your partner.  Men are encouraged to bring their female partners with them to the consultation, if it is possible.

Dr. Lerner believes that educating his patients is very important, which is why he takes the time to explain the anatomy and production of sperm and discuss in detail the two types of blockages that may be involved, as well as the reconstruction process.  You will be informed about what to expect pre-operatively, the day of surgery, and during your recovery.

Following your visit,  a patient coordinator will go over details with you concerning your pre-op preparation, the types of testing you may need, the timing of your procedure, what your insurance may cover, and financing options.  You may schedule your procedure at this time, or go home and take some more time to consider what is best for you.

What to Expect The Day of Surgery

On the day of surgery, you'll arrive at The Vasectomy Reversal Center of America where Dr. Lerner will perform your procedure in the Center's state-of-the-art microsurgical suite that includes an entire team dedicated to vasectomy reversal patients. Here, you will meet the microsurgical team, including your operating room nurses and recovery room nurses.

Following your procedure, Dr. Lerner or one of the nurses from the Vasectomy Reversal Center will call to check on you, and Dr. Lerner will provide you with his cell phone number in case you need to reach him.
